AWESOME, PEACEFUL…absolutley Incredible

From the inception, the building of a trail on the nine plus acres was a dream that grew in the year 2012-2013 seeding the BIRTH of the trail project. As with any project, there is a process, and an order to follow. There are partnerships to build and funding to be found. Things just don’t happen in thin air, out of no where’s. Planning, enlisting support, making commitments and  the work required, all comes together to produce the end result.

The story of building our trail, is quite simply amazing!

Partnership support from Kings County Recreational Department, Department of Health and Wellness Nova Scotia, and Annapolis Valley Trail Coalition placed the needed framework for capital and interfaced with land usage regulations and process.

WRCA was required to provide in-kind contributions to the trail project. Here, is where the amazing “spirit of community” became identifiable.  Manifested by real tangibility, substance with measurable productivity, reflecting what community can be, when people share a common vision and goals.

The joint willingness of people in our community to pool resources and donate the use of equipment, chainsaws, weed whacker, tractor, backhoe and skid steer. The welcomed donation from NSP of culverts. Our professional heavy equipment operator, volunteered his time and gave his expertise to the trail building over two weekends in 2014. Our farming community family who donated the use of a backhoe and took part in many hours of trail work. The individual who donated the skid steer and helped to spread 200 yards of gravel. The chainsaw operators who worked weekend after weekend to cut and clear debris. The individual who took the time to clear and fall the hung trees left from Arthur’s windstorm. Community people who moved brush, cut roots, removed rocks from the trail bed.

More importantly, it is the combined efforts of individuals, that produce living reflections of community spirit. Not one person has looked for praise or recognition as an individual contributor in the trail project, we all worked together for the benefit of the community.

We as individuals have been privileged in sharing our time. Working along side fellow members of the community, that we call home. Community is about you and me. It’s found in the hearts and actions of what, we as people give to each other; for the benefit of all to enjoy.

Please come out and enjoy the trail. This is the most gratifying part for those that have labored and built the trail. Come walk, enjoy the surroundings. Discover animal tracks, the wood frogs, the eagles that soar in the air currents above. Soak up the beauty in the filtered sunlight among the trees that shade the winding trail. Sit awhile in the beautiful ash and birch woods, among the poplars and furs that make up the Acadian Forest of the Maritime.

Yours truly,

Board Members, WRCA
